Bromelain is a group of cysteine proteases extracted from pineapple (Ananas comosus) that hydrolyses proteins into peptides and amino acids.
It is used in digestive enzyme formulations and dietary supplements, and in formulations for its anti-inflammatory action in approved medicines where permitted.
It is typically formulated into tablets and capsules, alone or combined with other enzymes.
